Merano is connected to South Tyrol's network of cycle paths, which offers fantastic holiday possibilities, over 600 km signed ways, the most attractive nearby Merano. One cycle path leads all the way , along the river Etsch. Another cycle path leads through the idyllic valley of Passeier to the village of St. Leonhard, following the green Passer river. Both paths can be reached directly from Merano.
A special highlight is the combined offer "Bike and Train".
A quick, silent and very comfortable trip with the panorama train from Merano to the Val Venosta (Vinschgerbahn), which stops in 17 villages. On 6 stations you can borrow free of charge bicycles. In Mals you have the choice of an enjoyable and comfortable bicycle ride back to Merano or to continue on your bicycle as far as the Reschenpass.
In Merano bicycles can be borrowed free of charge at the Merano railway station and in the Galiliei Strasse (near the way up to the Tappeiner Promenade).
From the Passo Resia to the lake Garda One of the most beautiful cycle paths leads gently downhill from the Reschen Pass through the Vinschgau valley to lake Garda. The narrow, asphalted tracks through the orchards and vineyards to explore history and culture between fascinating nature, different climats, steppe-vegetations and olives groves.
Via Claudia Augusta: it leads until 2000 years from Donauwörth in Bayern over the alps to the Adria and is crossing the area of Merano. The 700 km historical cycle route invite to discover Roman and medieval architecture and to have numerous activities and adventures.
Idyllic cycle path through Val Passiria to St. Leonhard: "soft" biking for 20 kilometres on levelled area along the Passer river from Merano to St. Leonhard. To bike on this well marked cycle patht is very refreshing and pleasant in summer and nearby you can visit the museum of the hystorical local hero Andreas Hofer.
